Shortcrust Pastry

Shortcrust pastry is one of the simplest things I've made, you can use your imagination to create sorts wonderful sweet or savoury treats with it!

You will need:
  • 125g plain flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 55g butter, cut up into small pieces
  • 2-3 tbsp cold water

Put the flour, salt, and butter into a bowl and rub the mixture with your fingertips until they form a sort of chunky breadcrumbs texture. You should try your best to do this as quickly as possible so that the butter doesn't melt too much.

Then, add 2 tbsp of cold water into the mixture and stir with a knife to bind the mixture. Only add the third if you need to.

Wrap the dough in clingfilm and leave for 10-15 minutes be for using.
